Ruth’s 714 home runs stood as a record until 1974, when Hank Aaron surpassed him. Barry Bonds is now number one on the list, but it’s generally agreed that his record is tainted by performance enhancing drugs.

The Babe learned baseball at reform school. When his hometown Baltimore Orioles signed him, his age forced manager Jack Dunn to become his legal guardian. Teammate’s called him “Dunn’s new Babe.”
He started as a pitcher.
