Expect Japanese-Style Tapas at Houston’s Izakaya Wa near 7 Seventy

Tapas may have originated in Europe, but they’ve taken root all over the world. That includes Japan, where small plates and sake make up many a meal. At Houston’s Izakaya Wa, not far from 7 Seventy, locals can partake in the Japanese tapas experience themselves.

Similar to a pub or tavern, libations are the focal point of the menu here. Izakaya boasts a huge list of wines and sakes, as well as a few beers. Pick your preferred drink and then look over the various small plate menus. There are classic starters, like edamame and seaweed salad, as well as an impressive list of specialty sushi rolls. For an eat slightly beyond the borders of classic Japanese cuisine, try a skewer of meat that’s been breaded in panko, the Asian version of breadcrumbs, and then fried. Izakaya claims to be the only restaurant in all of Texas that specializes in these exotic skewers, which can also be ordered sporting veggies or seafood instead of meat.
